Lesson learned

Posted by Billy on Jul 15 2008 | Tagged as: Life

I always forget to sell my textbooks after each semester is over. It also doesn’t help that my college bookstore’s buyback rates are unimpressive. So I did some research online and found Textbookwheel.com which claims to offer the highest prices on used books. They even pay for shipping so I sent out three books on June 11th to try it out. At that time, I did not think I would need any insurance or delivery confirmation since I was “sure that it would make it’s way there.” :?

Well it’s been a little more than three weeks but Textbookwheel.com’s status for my order still says “awaiting shipment” which is making me more and more worried. Now I have learned my lesson that when sending out packages that’s worth more than $20, I should always get (at least) delivery confirmation. But thinking positively, I really hope they received the shipment but have not started processing yet, hence the “awaiting shipment” status. :( Plus, it is shipped using Media Mail which supposedly takes the longest…

Edit:
Brandon, you are right, Media Mail does take super long. They contacted me today and said they have received my shipment. :D

My-HiME’s false alarm

Posted by Billy on Jun 30 2008 | Tagged as: Anime

Remember last month when Sunrise released a teaser of what’s coming next for the My-HiME Project? Well with July’s update on the official site, it seems it is just a false alarm (in terms of anime). :( The new series is just a novel titled “My-HiME Rhapsody“. More »

MacBook Pro + iPod Touch Deal

Posted by Billy on Jun 28 2008 | Tagged as: Life

I just bought a MacBook Pro and an iPod Touch because my ACM major requires it. I was angry that they require so many expensive things; especially this laptop as it’s not necessary since we have iMacs we can use in our classroom! But all emotions dissipated after starting up the Mac. For Windows users like me, this Mac will be a pleasant surprise. First off, the packaging was very unique. The box can close and has a handle in which you can carry. Inside, even the styrofoam is specially designed (I really like it too :)). The power adapters and cables are neatly placed in a hole in the foam as is the laptop. The manuals and extras are placed in a black box in another foam hole beneath the laptop. When installing the Mac, you’ll be presented with a short video welcome message! How cool is that? :D More »

Seagate disappointment

Posted by Billy on Jun 25 2008 | Tagged as: Life

I recently purchased Seagate’s FreeAgent Desktop 500GB USB external hard drive and it arrived today! However, I was confronted with an error when installing the driver that it doesn’t support Windows 2000 (yes, I’m still using that because I dislike XP’s extra features and I doubt I will like Vista’s) even though Seagate’s site as well as Amazon blatantly says it does. I checked their FAQ and found the exact question about the error but when I clicked into it, I found that the link was coincidentally (or conveniently?) broken. The next step was to consult their forums and lo and behold! There was a thread from last year about this and I found out that the backup software for the drive does not support Windows 2000! And the fact that it’s from last year makes me angrily question why Seagate did not put up a notice about it or edit their product descriptions? From all the reviews I had read about Seagate products before I bought this, this was a big disappointment. Right now, I must use other software to make scheduled backups or I can just drag and drop files into the drive.

Firefox 3 launch + something extra

Posted by Billy on Jun 17 2008 | Tagged as: Life

Mozilla’s Firefox 3 was officially released on the internet this morning! If you haven’t made the switch over to Firefox yet or not downloaded the new version yet, you should because it has tons of new features. Read more about it at their web site. What’s more, the memory leak issue prevalent in the previous versions seems to have been fixed. :)

In other news, I had the opportunity to draw a guest strip for the web comic, Nemu Nemu. They update their comic every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, bringing you lots of laughs so don’t miss out! :D

Kajiura Yuki LIVE VOL #2

Posted by Billy on May 31 2008 | Tagged as: Life

Kajiura has announced a second live concert that will be held in Japan at Shibuya O-East on July 31st. The singers involved this time will be Yuriko Kaida, Kaori, Keiko, Wakana, Kalafina (just for the opening act), and as a guest, Itou Eri! However, there is still no Yuuka. If it had everyone including Kalafina as well as Yuuka, it’ll be one big union! :D Anyway, Kajiura has written in her blog that she is still deciding on what songs to play for this concert.

I’m still desperately waiting for any news about a DVD release for the first concert. I really hope she will release a DVD, I want to buy it!

A new My-HiME project?!

Posted by Billy on May 31 2008 | Tagged as: Anime

The My-HiME project is Sunrise’s latest franchise. It first started in 2004 with My-HiME with 26 episodes, gathering a very large fan base. Such popularity paved way for a PS2 game and a manga. In 2005, My-Otome debutted with 26 episodes followed by four episodes of My-Otome Zwei. There has also been numerous manga and novel spin-offs of the Otome universe such as My-Otome Arashi. There have also been My-HiME Destiny which is a novel series.

In 2008, a prequel OVA, My-Otome 0 ~S.ifr~, was planned for release, it has three episodes. The second episode will be released on DVD on July 25th, 2008. It will again be 30 minutes long with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The latest update has revealed all five members of Garderobe’s Columns. Una Shamrock, Elliot Chandler, Rei Juggernaut (sp?), Kyouko Tsumabuki, and Iruma Bandbelt (sp?). Maria Graceburt will also be appearing in this episode. What’s more, the site credits Ishida Akira (the voice of Nagi in Otome) as participating in episode two. However, who he’s playing is still kept a secret.

While the planning for the last episode is still under way, they have announced a new project already in today’s update on the official web site! :) It announced the start of a new My-HiME project and shows a new heroine named Mao. More information will be released by the site in the future. I am seriously surprised that there continues to be more behind this HiME franchise. Now I really cannot wait for more information.

Back to the drawing board

Posted by Billy on May 27 2008 | Tagged as: Life

I’ve finished what I was working on these past few days. Well, sort of finished. It will be up at my ToY web site when I have it all ready! :) Meanwhile, it’s time to finally start drawing manga again. I have whippd up a very nice chapter insert page which even surprised me. But I won’t be putting it up yet until I have some more pages for all of you who have been waiting for the past few months.

I have not drawn manga for so long that I even forgot what settings I used to export the pages from Manga Studio! I tried different settings but something tells me that it’s not quite right even though it looks the same as my previous pages’ format. Oh well, I think it’s all right? :(

Comic #1 completed!

Posted by Billy on May 22 2008 | Tagged as: Life

I have just completed my very first comic for my university’s newspaper, Ka Leo! It is set to be published every Wednesday starting May 28th. So exciting! :D Surprisingly, my first published work will be for Ka Leo instead of for the previously mentioned Shockpop Manga Anthology who contacted me in December 2007. Their release date was Spring 2008 but that’s passed already. I hope they get on it soon.

Blog Troubles

Posted by Billy on May 20 2008 | Tagged as: Life

After ipowerweb’s server outage earlier this month, I have just spotted some after effects. Yes, while the blog still works and I can still post (thankfully), I can no longer manage directories. I tried uploading images (such as the ones for my new summer anime line-up page) and it does so. But the URL path does not load as if the file is not uploaded. I also tried deleting old images that I uploaded before the outage but the image would still load. It’s as if I’m uploading/deleting to/in a separate directory. I don’t know how to fix this with MySQL database not loading either!

Problem fixed. It seems after ipowerweb updated their server (before the outage), they also updated FTP information as well. So I was logging into the old and obsolete location all this time! They should be more tidy and delete the obsolete location or something. Anyway, I’m now able to upload stuff again.
